Orient Express Takes on Whole New Meaning On Epic Cycling Journey with Tour d‚Afrique

50-Day Cross-Continental Adventure Will Cover 4,000 km

From Paris, France to Istanbul, Turkey June 5-July 24, 2011

TORONTO, August 1, 2010 ˆ Tour d‚Afrique (http://www.tourdafrique.com/), the company that first introduced the world to cross-continental cycling tours, outlines details of its upcoming Orient Express tour, the latest in its epic line-up of continent-crossing adventures http://www.tourdafrique.com/tours/orientexpress.

Named after the famous train, the Orient-Express, the 50-day tour follows a similar route among international capitals, linking the mystery of Asia Minor to the European continent. However, unlike those riding the luxury train in style and comfort, the June 5 to July 24, 2011 journey is by bicycle from Paris to Istanbul, stopping enroute at French vineyards, Budapest spas and finally savoring the spices of Turkish bazaars.

„After creating the Tour d'Afrique from Cairo to Cape Town, we wanted to create another romantic and adventurous journey, and thus the Orient Express on bicycles was created in 2005,‰ said Henry Gold, Tour d‚Afrique‚sfounder and director. „As a result, like our African trip, the Orient Express has become an iconic bicycle trip for anyone who wants to cross the European continent on pedal power. There is simply no other organized bicycle trip in Europe that even attempts to be in the same category.‰

Cyclists will average 97 km a day except on the 11 rest days when they are free roam at will through museums and other attractions. A full 4000 km tour goes through Austria, Bulgaria, France, Germany, Hungary, Romania and Turkey and is •5,990 per person. The journey may also be broken up and taken in three shorter legs at rates from •1,550 per person: Paris to Vienna (1710 km), Vienna to Bucharest (1355 km) and Bucharest to Istanbul (936 km).

„Our participants come from all over the world but share two things: a passion for adventure and a desire to live life to the fullest,‰ said Gold. „Traveling by bike allows you to immerse yourself in a foreign culture, to smell strange and wonderful foods cooking as you roll through a village, to share a home-made beer in a country inn, to feel the temperature drop as you relentlessly climb to the top of a mountain pass, and to observe how the culture and vegetation changes across landscapes. Such experiences create the magic of long-distance cycle touring.‰

If payment of the Full Tour entry fee is made before December 5, 2010 a discount of 250 is offered. Interested riders are asked to contact Tour d‚Afrique by phone at +1-416-364-8255, by email at info@tourdafrique.com or you can visit the website athttp://www.tourdafrique.com/.
