As the summer days fade away and we head into autumn it seems appropriate to think about the upcoming holidays. We have been busy putting together some special programs for you to offer to clients looking for a thrilling getaway to welcome in the New Year.
Peru is a fabulous destination for families - and it's affordable too! Our
"Taste of Peru" tour is a great itinerary for first time travelers, and a perfect fit for the December/January vacation time. Beginning in Lima, travelers enjoy a visiting the exquisite Larco-Herrera Museum followed by lunch overlooking the beautiful gardens. An afternoon guided tour through colonial Lima provides a history lesson that beats any you'll find in a book. Then it's off to Cusco and the Sacred Valley to capture a view of Incan life before traveling by train to Aguas Calientes, the base for the excursion to one of the world's most exciting archaeological sites - Machu Picchu. The 8-day tour is priced from $1550 per person for a family of four on a double occupancy basis.

For those with more time, I recommend either of these two programs:
"Captivating Colca & Cultural Peru" - a 12-day adventure into the highlands and valleys of Southern Peru, including Colca Canyon
(download itinerary) and
"Rainforest and Treasures of Peru" an 11-day journey that includes the exciting Amazon Rainforest, Sacred Valley, Cusco and Machu Picchu
(download itinerary). The special holiday prices for these programs begin at $2340 per person for a party of four traveling on double occupancy or just $2699 per person for two people on a share basis. These land only rates are commissionable at 12% and include four star hotels, some meals, all sightseeing with excellent English speaking guides in deluxe vehicles, train fares per the itinerary, and are subject to availability at the time of booking.
Julio Massa and Francisca Pena, owners and directors of Panorama Peru spent the last week of August in Cusco, the Sacred Valley and Machu Picchu. They inspected hotels, facilities and restaurants and are pleased to share their findings with you.
"The former 16th-century Seminary of San Antonio Abad, now Hotel Monasterio, remains as pretty and enigmatic as ever. With its 108 rooms and suites, it is perhaps, by history and size, the most impressive hotel in town. We also visited the works being done by Orient Express at the adjacent 55,000 sq.ft. Convento de las Nazarenas where a new 56-suite luxury hotel is under construction."
"This hotel maintains its high quality and exquisite service in the impressive surroundings of what was once the residence of conquistadors in the 1500's."
"This 11-suite hotel is a former 16th-century manor house, where Inca legacies and colonial furnishings reflect the blend of cultures combined with contemporary comforts and impeccable services."
"We recommend this restaurant in Cusco - it is one of our favorites. It is run by Argentinian Chef Luis Alberto Scilotto (of La Gloria fame), and the menu combines Mediterranean tradition with products from the region.
"We also recommend these restaurants in Cusco: Limo, MAP Cafe, Inka Grill, Incanto, Piskuo and Chicha."
The Sacred Valley has several excellent hotels mentioned in previous newsletters - Tambo del Inka Luxury
Collection, Hotel Sol y Luna and Hotel Rio Sagrado by Orient Express. During their visit last month, Julio and Francisca especially enjoyed
Ticllabamba Maison de Charme. It was originally a Royal Inca estate that is now a private home that is available for FIT visitors.
Owned by Susy Dyson, a Peruvian of English descent, the mansion has three very simple but elegant suites and her doting staff will surely make your clients' stay memorable.
One of the main reasons for the visit to the Sacred Valley was the inauguration of the new
Machu Picchu Train, owned and operated by Andean Railways. Brand new trains are now running between the Sacred Valley and Machu Picchu.
