Located on Blackcomb Mountain, this venue played host to the bobsleigh, luge and skeleton events during the 2010 Winter Games and will be used for athlete training, competitions, and public recreation. A new public ride program, launching in December 2010, allows guest to enjoy a piloted four- man bobsleigh experience ($200 Cdn) and a solo skeleton experience ($120 Cdn) down the fastest, most technical course in the world ...don't worry, visitors have a special starting gate lower down the course! Each experience will take approximately 2.5 hours (including instruction and a tour of Guest Services displays). The new Whistler Athletes' Centre includes the Athletes' Lodge and High Performance Training Centre. Available for athletes/ coaches and members of educational, arts and culture organizations, the facilities feature state-of-the-art strength and conditioning resources and 194 beds. The Whistler Athletes' Centre is located on the south end of Whistler in Cheakamus Crossing - the resort's newest neighbourhood which served as the Whistler Athletes' Village during the 2010 Winter Games. wsl2010.com
Whistler is gearing up for winter 2010/ 2011 with new developments in the terrain parks. Whistler Blackcomb's Nintendo Terrain Parks crew is adding an Olympic-sized superpipe to the already adrenalin-pumping mix of park options. Crews are widening and straightening the superpipe's fall-line for better riding and to accommodate the 22-foot Global Pipe Cutter. In addition, Whistler Blackcomb has partnered with Arena Snowparks for rail fleet production and the 150-foot mini pipe returns to Blackcomb.
