Northeast Florida’s Amelia Island Offers New Visitor Guide, Accommodations, Maritime Museum and Activities

 

AMELIA ISLAND, Fla. (February 21, 2011) – Amelia Island is making it even easier for visitors to plan their next trip to the popular northeast Florida destination.  The destination’s new comprehensive visitor guide makes it easy for the curious traveler to discover all that is new and exciting on the island, including a newly reopened bed and breakfast and several new activities to help create a memorable Florida beach vacation. 

 

The Amelia Island Convention & Visitors Bureau has unveiled its new visitor guide for 2011 – a colorful 75-page, digest-size guide with detailed information on dining, events, accommodations and attractions. The guide has maps and also offers information about weddings and honeymoons, local golf courses, and fishing. A digital version is available instantly at www.ameliaisland.com, and print versions can be ordered online or by calling toll-free (800) 226-3542. 

 

Visitors can once again enjoy a stay at the 16-room Florida House Inn, which has reopened in the heart of downtown Fernandina Beach. The historic bed and breakfast has undergone extensive renovations to the exterior and interior, including woodwork, paint, refurnished hardwood floors and a much improved garden courtyard.  All guest rooms have been updated with new mattresses, 450 count sheets and flat screen TVs. The property purchased a conference center directly behind the Inn, which allows them to accommodate groups of up to 150. They can also accommodate weddings with up to 125 guests. The Amelia Island Museum of History has announced the opening of the
Fernandina Beach Maritime Museum. The museum offers visitors a glance at the exciting maritime activities in and around Fernandina Beach. Located at 17 S. Front Street in Fernandina Beach, the museum is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday and from 1 to 4 p.m. on Sunday. The Hoyt House, a 10-room bed and breakfast inn located in the historic district of Fernandina Beach, has announced an authentic English Tea available Wednesday through Sundays from 12:30 to 3 p.m. The English Tea is open to the public and includes clotted cream straight from England, and homemade crumpets and scones served in the beautiful 105-year-old Victorian mansion. The tea includes a three tier tray of delicacies, such as assorted tea sandwiches, salmon mousse pinwheels and truffled mushroom tartlets. Trays range from $9.95 to $22.95 per person. Guests can also choose from eight loose teas from around the world served in a personal tea pot. The Hoyt House’s English Pub Amelia Lounge will also be serving Bellini Cocktail, Mimosas & Bloody Mary's from the full service bar & lounge. The Verandah restaurant at the Omni Amelia Island Plantation will be running several dining specials during the month of February, including BOGO entrées, bring your own wine night and 50 percent off appetizers or desserts, and wine tastings. Starting Friday, February 25, the Verandah Restaurant will begin opening at 4:30 pm for happy hour at the bar.
