Great Freedom Adventures Encourages Cyclists to Take Some Beach Time on Rhode Island's Quintessential Summer Playground - Block Island
Three 4 Day / 3 Night Tours Combining Cycling
With Hiking, Sailing, Kayaking, Swimming Planned for Summer 2011
On Island that Nature Conservancy Calls One of the „Last Great Places‰
SHERBORN, MA, April 7, 2011 ˆ The tour operator who promotes freedom on two wheels, Great Freedom Adventures (http://www.greatfreedomadventures.com/), announces three departures this summer of a four day / three night cycling tour of a much sought-after Eastern seaboard island. The tour called Enthralling Block Island, RI Vacation offers departures July 10-13, Aug. 14-17 and Sept. 11-14 at $2,295 per person, double occupancy (September trip is $2,195), single supplement $500.
„Block Island is a highly popular island destination, but it can be trickier here than it is on other islands to put all of the logistical pieces of a vacation together,‰ said Jeanne Rummel, Great Freedom Adventures founder. „We are the only fully guided and supported bike tour company offering multi-day, multi-sport programs on the island that we know so well. We take our guests to hidden beaches, trails and sites they would be unlikely to find on their own.‰
She added that the Nature Conservancy has named the island one of the „Last Great Places‰ in the Western Hemisphere.
In addition to cycling, activities include hiking, a kayaking adventure and a sunset sail on Great Salt Pond with wine and cheese, plus swimming.
Overnight accommodations have been selected as an enhancement to the stories and histories of Block Island where guests lodge at the 20-acre Rose Farm Inn that provides, in addition to breakfast and tea, fresh beach towels daily. Waterfront dining includes one evening feasting on fresh caught lobster.
„Block Island is a place of exquisite beauty, great tranquility and timelessness that leaves people feeling utterly captivated. Surprisingly, even people who live fairly close are often unaware of this Œlast great place‚ in their backyard,‰ said Rummel. „One of my very favorite hikes is on this island. It meanders through bird-filled maritime scrubland to the ocean‚s edge where the walk continues along bluffs where waves can be seen and heard crashing onto the beach below. The walk emerges from the bluffs to a panoramic view of North Light. We continue to the lighthouse which sits amidst a stunning landscape of sand dunes, rugosa roses and miles of beaches. Surprisingly, few people take this beautiful and rewarding walk while on the island but we will.‰
Cyclists travel eight to 15 miles a day on average. For additional information and itinerary see: http://www.greatfreedomadventures.com/block-island-ri-vacations.html
This program begins and ends at the Ferry Terminal in Point Judith, RI. Daily ferry service to Block Island leaves from either Point Judith or Newport, RI, Montauk, NY and New London, CT.
The program includes all but one dinner so that guests can explore local eateries on their own one night. Lodging, all breakfasts, some lunches, guides, van support, entrance fees where required and other region-specific costs are included in the tour rate, with the exception of alcoholic beverages and guide gratuities.
Rummel, who has been arranging and running bike and other active tours for 13 years, is passionate about engaging her guests in green destinations and at a pace of low impact travel mandated by bicycle that allows the spirits of the riders to connect with the green around them.
