THE TAJ WEST END, BANGALORE, BLENDS OLD WITH NEW

TO OFFER CALM OASIS & 24-HOUR BUTLER SERVICE IN BUSY IT CITY

Named Among ‘Top 10 Hotels in India’ & ‘Best Business Hotel in India’

Bangalore, India (May 3, 2011) – The Taj West End is a calm oasis in Bangalore, one of India’s most bustling high-tech centers. It carefully blends a historic past with the most contemporary of comforts for guests traveling on business or pleasure or seeking a unique meeting or wedding location.

The charming hotel, built in 1887 as the city’s first to accommodate the influx of British officers from the opening of the Suez Canal, sits on 20 lush acres in the city center and adjoins the 1878 Bangalore Golf Club across from the 1920 Bangalore Turf Club. With a storied heritage of more than a century of inspired hospitality, the property has hosted countless guests, including numerous heads of state, CEOs, philanthropists and financiers as well as celebrated writers, artists, actors and musicians.

Today, The Taj West End is characterized by an ambience of refined luxury, elegant 19th century colonial architecture and Bangalore’s most inventive dining and special event options. Its 117 guestrooms, including 26 suites, feature 24-hour butler service, private balconies or verandas with garden views, luxurious marble baths, contemporary interiors, Wi-Fi and plasma screen TVs.  Amidst its 20 acres of estate-like gardens are three restaurants, five indoor meeting spaces, three outdoor event lawns, a beauty salon and barber shop, a pastry shop, a fitness center with steam rooms, two swimming pools and two tennis courts. A naturalist leads restorative walks through the gardens filled with fragrant gardenias, magnolias, hibiscus and more.

The hotel’s 1905 Heritage Wing is notable for its gracious residential-style rooms and suites with high ceilings, expansive windows with wooden shutters and modern furnishings. This wing is also home to the Art Corridor with a rotating display of artwork by emerging and noted Indian artists, a complete business center, a world-class boardroom and the sophisticated Taj Club Lounge.

All guests in Taj Club rooms and suites enjoy exclusive access to the Taj Club Lounge. Privileges include complimentary airport transfers, private early check-in and late check-out, an array of welcome amenities and complimentary Taj Club Lounge breakfast, high tea, coffee and cocktail service.

The Taj West End Presidential Suite has its own private plunge pool and massage area cocooned in a private courtyard.  Housed in a 4,000-square-foot bungalow surrounded by gardens, the Suite is graced with teak floors, antique hand-knotted carpets, two spacious bedrooms with marble baths, a sitting area, a dining area that can accommodate 10 people - complete with an adjoining pantry and powder room, a library/office and exclusive artwork throughout by the award-wining artist Paresh Hazra.  An added amenity is the opportunity to reserve the use of the hotel’s luxury sporting vehicle, the Jaguar-XF.

Innovative dining options, in addition to 24-hour in-room dining at The Taj West End, include:

  • Blue Ginger, a refined Vietnamese restaurant, offers cuisine that includes five-course tasting menus in a romantic pavilion set amidst a miniature lake surrounded by Southeast Asian gardens. Adjoining the restaurant is Blue Bar, a stylish open-air bar set amidst gardens and hyacinth ponds, with a predominantly South Asian feel, celebrity bartenders and an inviting calendar of special theme nights.
  • Mynt is the 24-hour dining restaurant with an eclectic menu that offers the world traveler a great variety of cuisines, including Indian, Lebanese, Italian and Mediterranean dishes. With 24-hour advance notice, a special breakfast can be served outdoors beneath the 150-year-old Rain tree, with traditional South Indian specialties such as idli presented on a banana leaf.
  • Masala Klub serves the best recipes from North and South India, adapted to a contemporary, light menu in a visually stunning setting defined by a 120-year-old tamarind tree. Among its many special offerings is the signature Paperwali Machchi, fish fillets drizzled with fresh peppercorns, sealed in parchment and char grilled in an open pit. The Masala Grill is another favorite, where guests prepare their own dishes atop hot stones that have been marinated in spices and herbs from the hotel’s Herb Garden for two weeks.

The Taj West End can also expertly arrange productive meetings, board meetings and unique special events, including exquisite outdoor receptions or garden weddings on the Prince of Wales Lawn, in the Palm Grove or Coconut Grove, or poolside beneath hundreds of sparkling lights.
