BEIJING (May 26, 2011) – Following the well-received Oppositehouse Vol 1 and Vol 2, The Opposite House in Beijing has released Oppositehouse Vol 3, a third CD of ten eclectic tracks by some of China’s most exciting and talented musicians. Unlike the first two, this third limited edition album has been specially created for guests to enjoy in-house or to take away as a gift (not available for sale).

“Every Oppositehouse album has a different personality; the third one is a little earthier, but still showcases how new urban folk music is being developed by talented Chinese musicians. We appreciate the contribution of the artists and Universal for putting together these authentic and expressive tracks,” said Anthony Ross, General Manager of The Opposite House.

The ten artists featured on the album have very diverse musical backgrounds, including Hanggai, who pioneered China’s folk rock scene, mixing rock guitars with throat singing; Zhou Yunpeng, China’s most popular independent folk singer and campaigner for visually impaired children and Shanren, who aims to promote and preserve the heritage of diverse minority groups. Oppositehouse Vol 3 provides an insightful perspective into how today’s musicians draw upon the sounds and moods of their ancestors, combining these with modern twists.

The “Khurden” oil painting on the album cover art was created by Batzorig Dugarsuren, an Ulaanbaatar-based up-and-coming artist. He conveys the idea of reincarnation in an eternal continuum, embedded in the painterly rings of concentric abstraction. Batzorig is represented by the Red Gate Gallery, Beijing and his work is held in the permanent collection of the Mongolian Museum of Modern Art.
