Bicycling Vacation Tour Operator Great Freedom Adventures
Lists Five Favorite Bike Rides in New York and New England
SHERBORN, MA, June 1, 2011 ˆ The tour operator who promotes summer vacation freedom on two wheels, Great Freedom Adventures (http://www.greatfreedomadventures.com/), has outlined five favorite bike rides in New York‚s Hudson Valley and in New England.
Jeanne Rummel, founder and owner, looks for „quieter roads with really beautiful scenery, fun stops like a raging water fall and a scheduled sandy beach for a dip. A few good shops are always a plus. I‚ve been known to bungee cord a treasure to my rear bike rack on more than one occasion. I want cafés and farm stands with fresh, mouth-watering treats. And I like views whenever possible, big, long, top-of-the-world mountain views, or endless ocean seascapes. Mostly though, I want fabulous cycling.‰
She has been arranging and running bike and other active tours for 13 years and is passionate about engaging cyclists in green destinations and at a pace of low impact travel mandated by bicycle that allows the spirits of the riders to connect with the green around them.

Vermont offers two favorites, and there‚s one each in Maine, Massachusetts and New York.
# 1 ˆ Covered Bridges of East Central Vermont: This is a scenic 31.3 mile loop that starts and finishes in historic Woodstock, a town the Ladies Home Journal termed „one of the prettiest small towns in America.‰ The route passes picture-perfect farmland, a dramatic gorge, classic country stores, a blueberry farm, three covered bridges, art galleries, restaurants and delis, and unique shops. With slight modification, this route is included on Great Freedom Adventures Best of Vermont Bike Tour. http://www.greatfreedomadventures.com/vermont-bike-tours.html
# 2 ˆ Enchanting Islesboro, Maine: A 14-mile-long island in Maine‚s upper Penobscot Bay is accessed by ferry from Lincolnville on the mainland. In the 19th century home to the largest commercial shipping fleet, the island was later reborn as a Gilded Age resort community with many large summer homes remaining. A 28.5-mile-ride begins and ends at the Isleboro ferry landing, along the way passing many harbors and coves filled with lobster pots and the famous summer colony and yachting center at Dark Harbor.
#3 ˆ Vineyards and Horse Farms of the Hudson Valley: A 21.8-mile route traverses a tranquil countryside of impeccably manicured horse farms, stately homes and fragrant vineyards. The ride is begins and ends in Millbrook, a picturesque village and antique mecca. Cyclists pass Oak Summit Vineyards where you can stop to sample the vintages. Portions of this route are included in Great Freedom Adventures Magnificent Hudson Valley, NY Bike Tour. http://www.greatfreedomadventures.com/new-york-bike-tours.html
#4 Ride the Gaps of West Central Vermont: For inveterate cyclists a 48-mile Green Mountain National Forest expedition begins and ends in Branbury State Park on the east side of Lake Dunsmore, with extraordinary wilderness in the Moosalamoo Recreation Area and a chance for a dip in the lake at the end.
