MOHICAN RIVER OPEN FOR CANOEING

Loudonville, Ohio - After a very wet spring, the Mohican River is finally open for canoeing.  "With the heavy winter snowmelt and more than normal early season rain, the Mohican River has largely been closed to canoers the past two months," said Bob Yun, Executive Director of the Mohican-Loudonville Visitors Bureau.  "The past couple of weeks the River has been open for most watercraft.  With the summer in full swing, we wanted to be sure outdoor enthusiasts know the Mohican River is again open for canoeing."

The Loudonville area boasts six canoe liveries within minutes of downtown.  In addition, there are five campgrounds that shuttle campers to the liveries.  Length of canoe trips can vary from 45 minutes to 4 hours, even 3 days, depending on the livery.  In addition, visitors have a choice renting a canoe, kayak, tubes, or raft.  On busy summer weekends, a canoe reservation is always a good idea too.  All liveries also offer camping from primitive to full hook-ups for RV's, many also have cabins to rent.  So plan to spend the night, even the weekend.

"Ohio weather can change at a moments notice.  So it is always a good idea to check with the canoe livery about river conditions."  The Mohican-Loudonville Visitors Bureau web site,www.DiscoverMohican.com, also provide a River Report, updated daily during canoe season.  The Report also has links to all liveries."

For many years Loudonville has been among the most popular places for canoeing in Ohio.  And this year is no exception.  With 2011 as the 50th anniversary of the opening of Ohio's first canoe livery in Loudonville, this year is a great time to enjoy a memorable trip on the Mohican River.  And there is still almost five months in the season to enjoy canoeing with family and friends.
