SOUTH LUANGWA NATIONAL PARK, ZAMBIA (July 29, 2011) – Bilimungwe Bushcamp, a long time favorite with the safari jetset, has reopened after a complete rebuild from the raised chalets to the leadwood ice buckets. Anticipation was palpable as the venerable camp had been closed for over a year to allow for the full rebuild and extensive custom work. Bilimungweʻs secluded setting, rustic charm and great game viewing is enhanced by the organic, new design and some bush-luxurious features.
 

“Bilimungwe is all about exclusive animal encounters mixed with rejuvenating comfort and privacy that retains an authentic bush feel,” said Andy Hogg, founder of The Bushcamp Company. Andy is a native son of Zambia who started out at Save the Rhino Trust’s Chinzombo Lodge in Luangwa right out of school, a real Africa safari lifer. “Our staff has several master carvers and craftsmen that custom built one-of-a-kind furniture and features from dining tables to double vanities, wood slatted showers to branch-legged bar stools. Everywhere you look you will find unique objects and elegant designs celebrating the best of Zambiaʻs bush lifestyle.”

• The master craftsman at Bilimungwe are Monty and Frank, plus lots of helpers.
• One of the most beautiful woods used at Bilimungwe is Leadwood, a very hard African wood with a deep mocha-brown color and fine grain patterns. This wood has been well aged.

Close to the main Luangwa River around a series of private water holes, Bilimungwe is an eight bed retreat with wildlife on its doorstep. The open-air lounge, bar, dining area and four spacious 'bush chalets' are newly constructed of polished, multi-toned woods on raised platforms. Four poster beds, gin and tonics on the deck and outdoor waterfall showers are just a few of Bilimungwe’s bush luxuries. The animals are never out of sight and are known to join guests for sundowners. Exciting walking safaris as well as day or night game drives in open vehicles are conducted by Manda Chisanga, an award-winning safari-guide. Bilimungwe is part of a collection of walking camps in Zambia, which is one of the best priced visitor countries on the continent.
