TAJ SAFARIS’ PASHAN GARH BEST ECO-FRIENDLY LODGE AT 2010-2011 ECO-TOURISM AWARDS

08-03-2011

TAJ SAFARIS’ PASHAN GARH LODGE AWARDED BEST ECO-FRIENDLY LODGE AT 2010-2011 ECO-TOURISM AWARDS; TO RE-OPEN FOR THE SEASON OCTOBER 16

MUMBAI (August 3, 2011) – Taj Safaris’ Pashan Garh Lodge in India’s Panna National Park, home to the Bengal tiger, has been named Best Eco-Friendly Lodge/Resort in the 2010-2011 Eco-tourism Awards program by the Madhya Pradesh Eco-tourism Development Board.

Pashan Garh, the newest of the four luxury all-inclusive safari lodges that Taj Hotels created in central India’s national parks, received the award for its eco-friendly design, smart construction practices that minimized land use and preserved all trees, and ongoing rainwater harvesting from an artificial lake.  All lodges re-open for the season October 16, with special offers for 6- and 8-night stays.

“We are honored that the Madhya Pradesh Eco-tourism Board has recognized Taj Safaris Pashan Garh for this coveted award,” said Raymond Bickson, Managing Director, Taj Hotels. “This acknowledges the efforts of all who put their heart and soul into the lodge, from its initial thoughtful design and construction to our wilderness lodge employees who work passionately every day to delight guests while protecting our natural environment.”

Pashan Garh in Panna National Park offers 12 private stone cottages atop a hill, each with dramatic roofs and a romantic suspended sala that overlooks the jungle, inspired by the dry-packed stone houses of the Panna region. Set on a plateau dominated by tropical forests, deep ravines and cascading waterfalls, the cottages feature magnificent views across the top of Panna forest and a large watering hole where wildlife gathers. Enjoy the infinity pool, interactive open kitchen, unique dining adventures, even a day trip to view the treasured 10th century sandstone temples of Khajuraho with their celebrated erotic carvings.

Panna National Park is the most important protected area in the north-central highlands of India, as it links the eastern and western populations of wild animals through the Vindhya ranges. Home to the majestic Bengal tiger, guests may also see leopard, wolf, hyena, jackal and sloth bear. The reserve is also well known for sightings of nilgai, sambar, chital, wild boar, Indian crocodile and more than 200 species of birds.

Taj Safari all-inclusive lodges feature twice-daily jungle safaris, elephant walks, nature tours, inventive dining and more, a unique partnership that offers legendary Taj hospitality and the wildlife expertise of partner & Beyond.
