NATURAL ATTRACTION AT ORIENT-EXPRESS HOTELS
LONDON (January 11, 2008) – Recognizing guests’ increased desire to explore the unique flora and fauna that make a destination so special, Orient-Express Hotels has developed a number of experiences, to bring guests closer to nature, from breakfast with kangaroos in Australia to apothecary spas and a hands-on introduction to the world of botanical art.
· Bouncing Breakfast
Lilianfels Blue Mountains in New South Wales, Australia, can organize for guests to travel into the nearby Megalong Valley to enjoy a luxurious picnic breakfast with kangaroos. Early morning in the Blue Mountains is the best time to view wild kangaroos up close in their natural habitat. Guests are transported from the hotel by a four-wheel drive vehicle with a personal guide who provides information on the local flora and fauna found within this unique eco system. There are plenty of opportunities to spot kangaroos while enjoying a gourmet picnic breakfast, and hampers can also be tailored to include a bottle of chilled Champagne for extra special occasions. The wicker basket breakfast typically includes a blanket, crockery, cutlery and thermos. Prices begin at US $115* per person, maximum of six people as a group or two couples. www.lilianfels.com.au
· Herbal Heaven
Hotel Splendido in Portofino offers a two-day “Discovering Herbs” course on the health and beauty secrets and uses of herbs typically found in the Tiguillio region. Guests learn to not only recognize the herbs, but also how to use them in cooking. The package also includes a half-day excursion led by a botanist guide on the beautiful Monte di Portofino. The program must be booked in advance and is subject to availability. Prices start at US $1,719* per person, for a double sea view room, including flowers, full American-style breakfast and all the activities in the program. www.hotelsplendido.com
· Fishing Frenzies
Eagle Island Camp, a luxury water-based camp in Botswana, recently launched fishing excursions along the Bora Channel, one of the main tributaries that feed the Okavango Delta. The area is home to fresh water pike, catfish and tilapia. All fishing is on a strict ‘catch and release’ basis. All levels are welcome, but it is suggested that more proficient fisherman bring their own equipment. A two-person, three-hour excursion is US $360* and available May to October. www.orient-express-safaris.co.za
