Every night new snow falls and every morning the sun bounces off refreshed acres of glistening white. Deep in winter with elk desperately searching for sustenance and the buildings barely peaking out of the muscular drifts, we begin to plan the coming year. But first the changes we have implemented: A private hot spring behind the Dunton Store Cabin, ice climbing on the towering waterfall, another spa cabin now fully refurbished, a much improved skating rink, snow shoeing under a haunting moon (we now have permits to go deep into the National Forest), horseback riding in neighboring red rock canyon, wine-tasting in our vineyard in McElmo, and much, much more. And of course the winter activities that everyone has come to love: cross-country skiing, snowmobiling over Dunton meadows, guided back country skiing and in depth wine & food tasting. |
We have always prided ourselves on the food at Dunton Hot Springs, but it has never before attained its present wonderful level. Through the summer and fall we were able to use the produce from our own farm and vineyard, and even in the winter the chef has found a broker in California who now sends us remarkable fruit. Our wine lis.t is being revised to match our increasingly interesting menu and we have brought in several wines upon customer request. A wonderful day can be spent riding in McElmos sculpted canyon, followed by a lunch and wine tasting at our vineyard right across the road from Canyon of the Ancients National Monument. Hard as it is to imagine in this wonderland of pristine snow, spring is approaching. The mountains open up again for horseback riding, mountain biking, hiking and fly fishing. The desert also explodes in spring time, the air is redolent with sage. Dunton Hot Springs lies 30 miles southeast of Telluride, and is open all year for individual and group bookings. Dunton offers a variety of day and overnight packages, and the entire town can be rented exclusively for corporate retreats, reunions and weddings. All packages include three delicious meals daily and endless use of our hot springs, boxing gym and library. Transportation to a plethora of magical places as well as our local airports can be arranged for an additional charge.
