Metal against ice: Red Bull Crashed Ice Championship will be back in 2012 |
|
|
On March 17, 2012, Québec City will host the finals of the Ice Cross Downhill Championship
In keeping with tradition, the Red Bull Crashed Ice Championship will be once again held in Québec City. This year, all eyes will be glued to Canadian Kyle Croxall (Comox, BC) as he tries to wrest the crown from 2011 world champion Arttu Pihlainen (Finland) on home soil. Last year, Louis-Philippe Dumoulin from Blainville ended the race with a bang, coming in fourth overall.
A decade of breath-taking action
In 2000, athletes the world over gathered in Stockholm, Sweden, to take part in a new sport consisting of racing down a 300-m (900') icy track featuring jumps, ice-covered stairs and hairpin turns while wearing hockey skates. Since then, over 20 competitions have been organized in eleven cities in ten countries, including six in Québec City since 2006. Originally held as a series of individual events, Red Bull Crashed Ice has been structured as a championship since 2010.
Registration information for Canada will be posted atwww.redbullcrashedice.com very soon.
