Winter Adventures at The Birches Resort in Maine

01-25-2008

At The Birches Resort (www.birches.com), nestled in the woods on Moosehead Lake in Rockwood, ME, winter programming is in full swing.  The resort offers a varied menu of activities to take advantage of its 22' base and plethora of nearby wilderness trails.

The Lodge to Lodge Snowmobile Excursion is a three-night adventure that starts out after a restful stay at The Birches Resort on Sunday night.  The next day, after a hearty country breakfast, you'll head out to Baxter State Park on an Arctic Cat snowmobile.  You'll spend Monday night in a cozy cabin complete with hot tub, then the next day set out to the northern reaches of Moosehead Lake where you'll overnight in a traditional lumber camp.  Wednesday, explore the Moosehead Trail and return back to The Birches for lunch.

Trip includes meals and lodging, snowmobile rental, clothing and helmets.  Cost: $699 per person (Six person minimum).

For cross country ski enthusiasts, The Birches Resort offers miles of the most picturesque ski trails in New England.  Try the guided cross country ski excursion, which starts at The Birches, heads to a wilderness Yurt for lunch, then to another Yurt for dinner and a good night's sleep.  Ski back to The Birches the next morning for breakfast.  Cost: $159 per person (two person minimum).  Includes all equipment, guide and meals (bring your own sleeping bag).

In addition, The Birches offers other winter options including ice fishing and snowshoeing.

The Birches Resort is located on 11,000 acres of pristine Maine wilderness.  The resort, family owned and cared for, also has a full array of summer programs, including rafting, canoeing, kayaking, biking and the Moose Safari (more on that later on).
