Sofitel Philippine Plaza’s Imperial Residence ‘like nothing else’ in the country
MANILA (April 11, 2012) — A space that former Philippine first couple Ferdinand and Imelda Marcos dreamed up to accommodate friends with money and people with fame has been re-imagined as Manila’s most opulent and versatile digs.
At 6,200 square feet and with panoramic views of the sea and city, The Imperial Residence on the 11th floor of Sofitel Philippine Plaza is as much a mansion in the sky as it is the hotel's newest addition.
Among the exclusive dwelling's more magnificent features are a 10-seat formal dining room, fully equipped kitchen with Meile ovens, spacious living room with 72-inch flat-screen TV and wrap-around balcony overlooking Manila and its bay.
But the residence's most appealing facet could be its collection of five spacious suites, which guests can book separately or as a whole.
The latter choice comes with the option to have any room converted into a customized special-purpose area, such as a gym, office or spa. Or yoga studio. Or video-game den. Or whatever the guest’s heart desires.
“We tried to envisage the most chic, most coveted, most remarkable residence we could,” said Goran Aleks, Sofitel Philippine Plaza's general manager. “The kind of place you dream about long after you’ve finished sleeping in it. This is what we came up with.”
Fashioned by renowned Japanese interior design firm Spin Design Studio (SDS), The Imperial Residence is an apotheosis of deep earth tones including shades of gray, maroon and gold.
Mother of pearl inlaid doors, capiz lighting fixtures, custom leather wall paneling and grand sculptures crafted by local artists provide supplementary layers of character.
Most of SDS’s interior design choices are on full display in the master bedroom, which also boasts an ensuite bath with central therapeutic tub, Japanese bidet, multi-shower system with color therapy, 50-inch flat-screen TV, Bose surround sound speakers and Hermes amenities.
VIP treatment comes in the form of direct helicopter landing pad access, personal shopper services, in-residence massages, a private chef upon request and other high-brow privileges befitting of presidents and princesses.
“If you're going to pay $10,000 per night, you’re going to know what it’s like to be treated like royalty,” said Aleks. “This space is like nothing else in the Philippines.”
To celebrate the concept’s launch, the hotel recently hosted a private party for a select group from Manila’s high society.
The bash extended into every room of the residence, where those lucky enough to attend were treated to a champagne tower, a prolific assortment of exquisite chocolates and a performance by harpist and singer Noelle Cassandra, who has been invited to play with musical talents such as Josh Groban.
Built in 1976 with input from the Marcoses, Sofitel Philippine Plaza has long been the address of choice for guests of the country’s capital.
