Mammoth Mountain/Mammoth Lakes Updates:

Westin Monache:
The Westin Monache Resort, Mammoth is scheduled to open its doors in November 2007.  In addition to being the first internationally recognized upper-upscale hotel property in Mammoth, the Monache will also be one of the first flagged condo-hotels to open in California. The 230-condominium Westin Monache Resort (pronounced "mon-ah-she"), will be the first full-service property in the region.  One of the fastest-growing mountain destinations in North America, Mammoth is located in the Eastern Sierra Nevada Mountains (south of Reno, NV and northeast of Los Angeles). New Cloud Nine Express
Topping the list of major improvements this season is a new high-speed six-pack chairlift, Cloud Nine Express, which will be ready to load skiers when the 2007/08 ski season kicks off in November. The new Doppelmayr lift replaces Mammoth's legendary double-chair &#8211; Chair 9 &#8211; a project that represents $6.5 million in mountain improvements. Cloud Nine Express will whisk skiers from the Eagle Lodge side of the mountain to 10,371 feet near Dragon's Back in just over six minutes, providing access to hundreds of acres of intermediate and advanced terrain and cutting lift time in half. Mammoth anticipates the new lift to open Nov. 21 when Canyon and Eagle Lodges open for the winter, weather permitting.

New Wonderland Terrain Park
The Family Fun Terrain Park at Canyon Lodge has undergone a $250,000 renovation in preparation for this season. The relocation of the park from under Schoolyard Express to under Chair 7, on runs Hansel and Gretel, will decrease through-traffic and provide an additional 15 acres of park terrain. The new park, renamed the "Wonderland Park," remains focused on beginner freestyle development. The Mammoth Unbound worked closely with Mammoth's Ski and Snowboard School to develop entry-level terrain including box tops that sit on the snow, short rail slides, banked turns and "roller" jumps. The 375-foot-long Mini Halfpipe has also been relocated. The walls of the Mini pipe remain 10 feet high, however the Unbound used a new technique in the re-build &#8211; instead of carving a dirt ditch out of the ground, the dirtwork is done above-ground. "This is a new way of building pipes," said Oren Tanzer, director of Youth Action Sports. "We build mini-walls above the grade of the run, so it provides riders with more ride-able wall space." To accommodate snowmaking required for the pipe, 3,500 feet of plumbing and 25 snow guns have been added to the area.

New Green Cabin at Tamarack Lodge & Resort
Tamarack Lodge & Resort, one of Sunset Magazine's Top 10 Lakeside Resorts (August 2007), is a popular resort getaway for all seasons. Tamarack Lodge is building a new environmentally friendly LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certified three-bedroom cabin, set to open in July 2008. The LEED rating system is the nationally accepted benchmark for the design, construction and operation of high performance green buildings. This will be Mammoth's first LEED certified building and will light the way for future projects that include the Eagle Lodge redevelopment. The new cabin will bring Tamarack's total number of cabins to 32, plus 11 lodge rooms. The original Tamarack Lodge was built in 1924.
South Lake Tahoe Updates:

The Chateau at Heavenly Village:  RockResorts International, LLC, a luxury hotel company owned by Vail Resorts, Inc., will operate the $420 million Chateau at Heavenly Village redevelopment project that will feature two luxury condominium-hotels with 477 rooms, a 50,000-square-foot convention center with an additional 21,000 square-foot pre-function area, complete destination spa, 1.5-acre park, and a collection of shops and restaurants. The Chateau boasts a prime location for year round activities: it's within 50 yards of the Heavenly Village and gondola access to the ski resort as well as Harveys and Harrah's Hotel Casinos, and is just a quarter-mile walk to a private Lake  Tahoe beach.   http://www.chateauheavenlyvillage.com/
Steamboat Springs Updates:

Wildhorse Meadows: Wildhorse Meadows is the first master planned community in Steamboat Springs, Co&#8212;a resort that was recently acquired by Intrawest. This unique residential resort community plans to offer a mix of housing types including resort lodge suites, townhomes, mountain lofts, a branded hotel, and attainable housing, along with a wide variety of community amenities.  With the slopes of Steamboat Springs at Wildhorse's  back door, a proposed gondola will tie the development to the base of the mountain, eliminating the hassle of shuttle schedules or parking.  An extensive walking and biking trail system will connect the neighborhoods within Wildhorse to the town of Steamboat. New High Speed 6 Person Chair Lift at Shirley Lake
Upholding Squaw Valley's reputation as having the best lift network in North America, one of the resort's most popular areas, Shirley Lake, will be accessed via a DoppelmayrCTEC 2007 Detachable Grip (state-of-the-art High Speed 6 Pac.). 

Riviera Superpipe
There will be many new additions to the terrain parks in 2007/08 including a new trenched superpipe in Central Park at Riviera.  Equipped with lights, the new Riviera Superpipe will be the only night accessed superpipe in the Tahoe basin.  The addition of snowmaking in the Riviera terrain park, along with the trenching of the pipe, will give Squaw Valley skiers and snowboarders a superpipe from the beginning of the season on. 


Guided Back Country Tours
New this season, Squaw will open it's, until now, restricted borders for special backcountry tours of new, uncharted terrain.  Adventurous skiers and snowboarders must be upper intermediate to advanced level and pre-registration is required.  Groups will meet at the Shirley Lake Patrol Shack at the designated time (depending on best snow conditions) for 6 Sunday dates taking place between February and April.  Groups of 10 will receive a briefing on out of bounds protocol prior to the excursion which includes two private runs.  Groups will be led by experienced backcountry guides.
