San Miguel de Allende, Mexico, April 23, 2012: Three chic boutique hotels here are jointly presenting SMART – an exciting and eclectic San Miguel art festival blending exhibits by four acclaimed contemporary artists with a dance party featuring a famous DJ, tequila tasting, cocktail parties, hot air balloon rides, and more. Hotel Matilda (www.hotelmatilda.com) is partnering with Dos Casas (doscasas.com.mx) and L’Otel (l-otelgroup.com) to create the three-day “art happening,” June 1-3, 2012. “San Miguel de Allende has always been an art-centered destination, but SMART is unlike anything ever offered here,” said Hotel Matilda General Manager Bruce James. “We are transcending the typical art exhibit by mixing in cultural elements and fun activities to build a multi-media experience that taps today’s buzz.” On the agenda for SMART are: All three hotels are offering a SMART package. Guests may stay at their preferred hotel among the three. The cost is $250 USD per night double occupancy, plus service and taxes, with a two-night minimum. Included are the cocktail receptions, art exhibits, Casa Dragones tequila tasting, and dance party at Hotel Matilda. José Luis Cuevas, who was born in Mexico City in 1934, is one of Mexico’s leading modernist artists known for his muralism and neo-figurative works; his paintings and sculptures have been exhibited worldwide. Aldo Chapparo, who is originally from Peru but has lived and worked in Mexico City for many years, is best known for expanding the boundaries between art and other disciplines such as music, industrial design, editing and writing; his numerous exhibits have spanned from Mexico and South America to Europe and the Middle East. Manuel Cerda is often controversial, and always cutting-edge, creating art that is a commentary on provocative topics of the day, from rebellion and protests to revolution. Cerda’s works are on display at the Enrique Guerrero Gallery (http://galeriaenriqueguerrero.com/) in Mexico City, and his exhibit at SMART is made possible by the gracious support of the gallery.
